St.Mary´s Church

The tower and the nave of St. Mary’s Church are the very first impressions that visitors of the town get. They tower above the whole city. St. Mary’s is a parish church and as such one of the oldest in the Mark Brandenburg. It is a four-aisled Gothic hall church and a fine example of the brick style which is typical of northern Germany.

St. Mary’s Church was largely destroyed in World War II and carefully restored after 1990. Today the central aisle is used not

only for services but also for cultural events, such as concerts and art exhibitions.

The church is daily open to the public. In 2011 the 500th anniversary of its completion will be celebrated.
